As we continue to grow stronger together, this one-day conference will include keynote speakers and a military discussion panel. 2018 Ashford University’s Women’s Day event will celebrate the contributions of women, promote professional development, raise gender equality issues, and encourage growth opportunities for diversity in the workplace.

Session One | Opening Keynote Speakers
Dr. Jane McAuliffe
Former Executive Vice President/Chief Academic Officer of Bridgepoint Education
An expert in the field of public and private education, Dr. McAuliffe has co-authored a book, presented at numerous scholarly conferences, and has participated on more than a dozen professional committees. During her tenure at BPI, Dr. McAuliffe oversaw all academic functions for Bridgepoint's two academic institutions – Ashford University and University of the Rockies.
Sr. Kathleen Holland
Councilor of the Sisters of St. Francis/Nearly 40 years with Ashford University
A lifelong learner who has ministered and supported students, staff, and faculty (primarily at Ashford University) for nearly 40 years. Since September 2016 have served on the elected Leadership Team for the Sisters of St. Francis, Clinton, IA.
This dynamic duo will open our morning session with the history of Ashford University, and share about the challenges, importance, and accomplishments of women in academia.

Dr. Richard Pattenaude

Ashford University President Emeritus, Vice Chair of the Board and Chair of the Campaign Cabinet for United Way of San Diego County

Dr. Richard Pattenaude, president emeritus at Ashford University, has been selected to serve as vice chair of the board and chair of the campaign cabinet for United Way of San Diego County. Dr. Pattenaude was elected to a two-year term.
​
As vice chair of the board he will serve on United Way’s Executive Committee, and assist in general oversight and implementation of Board policies. As chair of the campaign cabinet, Dr. Pattenaude will lead a team of executive volunteers to help develop and deepen relationships with United Way’s top corporate partners and work to develop relationships with San Diego employers not currently partnering with United Way.
Shelley Schaffer

Shelley has over 29 years of experience managing, directing and leading teams. in 9 different companies and 3 different industries.
In her current role, Shelley and her group are responsible for helping students enroll and complete their first class with Ashford University. Shelley has been at Bridgepoint Education since October 2007, serving in multiple areas and levels. One of her most memorable accomplishments was helping to establish the Student Inquiry Center in 2012. Where she established the departmental foundation and structure that leads that department still today. She is an advocate for the adult learner. She enjoys building great organizational cultures.
Dr. Amy Rogers

Dr. Rogers has been a part of Ashford's College of Education since 2013. Upon graduating from high school in 1989, she spent four years as an active duty Airman in the US Air Force serving as a Medical Laboratory Specialist. As a Microbiology clinical instructor, her passion for teaching was reignited, having always imagined being a teacher during her childhood. 16 years of teaching in the public education system lead her to her current role as Program Chair for the Master in Curriculum & Instruction Program.
Vicky Morrison

Vicky Morrison is a member of Ashford’s Military & Academic Outreach (MAOM) team. The MAOM team provides support to military installations across the United States, and is a liaison between military students, the military education staff, and the University. They advise the University leadership of changes within the military, and advise Military Education Service Officers of changes within the University that could affect military students.
​
Vicky served 20 years in the United States Air Force in various administrative, recruiting, and management positions. Since retiring from the Air force, she has worked in the Education industry for over 14 years as an Admissions Advisor, Military Liaison, and as an Associate Director of Admissions.
This panel will highlight the growing presence of women in the military, and explore the role, challenges and accomplishments of women in the armed services.

Session Three | Closing Keynote Speaker
Dr. Hei-ock Kim
Founder and Executive Director at the Kim Center for Social Balance
After graduating from Princeton University and The Juilliard School, Dr Hei-ock earned her doctorate in classical piano performance from The Catholic University of America. She has devoted more than 10 years to nonprofit administration in the arts, environmental conservation, and social justice. She has also been a passionate educator for over 30 years as a teacher, professor, and lecturer.
Fast-tracking Workplace Gender Equity
​
WORKPLACE GENDER EQUITY is the adding of support or removal of barriers to counter obstructive cultures created by gender bias. Brookings recently issued a call to action for workplace gender equity, saying “the growth of the U.S. economy, and its future economic success hinges on improving career prospects and working environments for all women.” In her presentation, Fast-tracking Workplace Gender Equity, Dr. Kim will discuss a new approach to research and its central role in achieving true cultural change.
